How Much Does Your Neighborhood Define Who You Are?

Image result for Neighborhood
Does your neighborhood shape who you are? Would you be a different person if you grew up someplace else?

How do you think people would describe you based off of where you live? The facts are, “people fear that when poor people move next door crime, drugs, blight, bad public schools and higher taxes inevitably follow”. This shows that if you live in a neighborhood full of crime, people would define you as having a bad reputation. The reality, however, is that we don’t chose where we are born or what our economic status we are raised in so why does where you live define who you are individually?
In Bend, Oregon, generally the side of town you live on and the school you go to defines who you are. If I lived on the west-side, I would be considered one of the “rich kids” that goes to Summit High School just because of where I lived.
What defines you as is person isn’t based off of where you live or what kind of neighborhood you were born into but how you react to that environment. For example, if you live in a poor neighborhood with crime, that would define you as much as if you were the one causing the crime.
