Man United ask Jose Mourinho to wait a year to take over? Transfer news and gossip from Thursday’s papers

Manchester United chief Ed Woodward has asked Jose Mourinho to wait a year to take over from Louis van Gaal, according to reports.
The Sun claims that Woodward does want the Portuguese to take over at Old Trafford, but is still reluctant to sack Louis van Gaal when he still has a year left to run on his contract.
Mourinho, who left Chelsea just before Christmas, is keen to get back into management as soon as possible, but Woodward is even hoping he might opt for a money-spinning year in the Chinese Super League, before slotting into the Old Trafford hotseat next summer.
Elsewhere, Manchester City bowed out of the Champions League on Wednesday night after slipping to defeat at Mourinho's former club Real Madrid.
Manuel Pellegrini's men slumped to a 1-0 defeat at the Bernabeu as Real set up an all-Madrid final against Atletico next month.
Incoming City boss Pep Guardiola will be desperate to inject some new life into the squad with a raft of summer signings.
Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are also expected to be busy as they try to wrestle the Premier League title out of Leicester 's grasp next season.
